in August 2010 Nominees, Spread Your Warmth

Today we have the fifth nominee for the August edition of Sweatshirt Blanket’s Spread Your Warmth campaign, the Spina Bifida Association of Northwest Ohio.

The SBA of Northwest Ohio was founded in 1975 by a group of parents looking to find support from one another. Since then, the association has helped numerous adults and children with Spina Bifida along with their families.

Spina Bifida is the most common permanently disabling birth defect in the United States. An average of eight babies are born with Spina Bifida or a similar birth defect of the brain and spine each day. An estimated 185,000 people in the United States currently live with this disease and there are approximately 60 million women at risk for having a baby born with it.

The Spina Bifida Association of Northwest Ohio has many programs and services available to persons with Spina Bifida, as well as their families and caregivers, including:

  • Scholarships to attend the SBA National Conference
  • Camperships to attend Myelo Camp
  • Access to a Lending Closet
  • Reimbursement for Medical Equipment
  • Social events such as bowling and the holiday party

Thank you to Christina Fulton for nominating the Spina Bifida Association of Northwest Ohio for the August edition of Sweatshirt Blanket’s Spread Your Warmth campaign. If you would like to learn more about this great cause visit their website.
