in August 2010 Nominees, Spread Your Warmth

As voting for July’s nominees is winding down, we are ramping up with our slate of nominees for the August edition of Spread Your Warmth. First up to bat (pun most certainly intended) is the Jorge Posada Foundation.

The JPF is a non-profit organization established by the New York Yankees’ All-Star Catcher, Jorge Posada, and his wife, Laura. Their son, Jorge Luis, was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis when he was just ten days old and has undergone eight major surgeries to correct the condition. The Posada Family strongly believes that they were touched by Craniosynostosis so that they could make a difference in the lives of others dealing with this condition.

The purpose of The Jorge Posada Foundation is to: reach out to families in need, whose children are affected by Craniosynostosis, and provide them with emotional support through its family support network; provide financial assistance to underwrite a portion of the costs of initial surgeries in its partner medical centers. The Foundation also strives to create awareness about the condition through events and through funding other educational outreach efforts.

The Foundation funds are used in a targeted manner in order to maximize their efforts. They currently partner with the following medical centers: The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, NYU Medical Center, and Centro Medical Hospital in Puerto Rico.

Through these medical centers they assist families, from all over the world, with the costs of surgeries and treatments, underwrite innovative and groundbreaking teaching tools for both domestic and international surgeons and sponsor academic and professional summits for domestic and international medical professionals.

Thank you to Amy Galm for nominating the Jorge Posada Foundation for the August edition of Sweatshirt Blanket’s Spread Your Warmth campaign. If you would like to learn more about this great cause visit their website.
