in May 2010 Nominees, Spread Your Warmth

Our next nominee in the May edition of Sweatshirt Blanket’s Spread Your Warmth Campaign is a very well known organization – the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

For 30 years the Make-A-Wish Foundation has been enriching the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions. The wishes granted by this organization have ranged from a custom made bicycle for a child suffering from hydrocephalus to announcing the Steelers’ first round pick in the 2010 NFL draft.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 after a little boy named Chris Greicius realized his heartfelt wish to become a police officer. Seven year old Chris was being treated for leukemia and as his health worsened a U.S. Customs Officer Tommy Austin helped set in motion a plan that lead to Chris being sworn in as the first honorary DPS patrolman in Arizona state history.

Learn more about Chris and the first wish or how Make-A-Wish grants wishes.

Since its humble beginnings, the organization has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon, reaching more than 193,000 children around the world. A network of nearly 25,000 volunteers enable the Make-A-Wish Foundation to serve children with life-threatening medical conditions. Volunteers serve as wish granters, fundraisers, special events assistants and in numerous other capacities.

Aside from coming back to vote for the Make-A-Wish Foundation from June 1st through June 7th you can help this incredible organization the next time you go out to eat. Through May 26th Maggiano’s Little Italy locations across the country are sponsoring the Eat-A-Dish for Make-A-Wish campaign. The promotion includes donations triggered to the foundation through the purchase of feature menu items and customer donations through the purchase of wish stars.

This year Maggiano’s will also donate $1 for each new, valid email address collected in-restaurant and online, up to an additional donation of $150,000. Visit Maggiano’s website to join their mailing list and help Make-A-Wish.

Thank you to David Hogan for nominating the Make a Wish Foundation for the May edition of the Spread Your Warmth campaign. If you would like to learn more about the Make a Wish Foundation or their mission visit their website.
